Soothe and heal the sores on your skin for more comfort and fewer infections. According to research or other evidence, the following self-care steps may be helpful.
  • Apply an over-the-counter treatment

    Control infection with an over-the-counter topical anti-biotic with bacitracin (AK-tracin), bacitracin and polymyxin B (Polysporin), or a combination of bacitracin, polymyxin B, and neomycin (Neosporin)

  • Seek support from C

    Take 1,000 mg of vitamin C every day to speed healing

  • Go for the protein

    Help prevent and heal skin ulcers by eating a diet high in protein and adequate in calories

  • Think zinc

    Under the supervision of a doctor, take at least 50 mg of a zinc supplement, plus 1 to 3 mg of copper, each day to facilitate tissue growth

  • Ask about prescription-strength topical anti-biotics, such as metronidazole (MetroGel) and mupirocin (Bactroban), to treat infections associated with skin ulcers

  • Get a check-up

    Visit your doctor to find out if your skin ulcers are caused by a treatable medical condition
