Gewurztraminer
Style
France, Germany
Most Gewurztraminer comes from Alsace and southern Germany where it is produced in the classic style described above. Dessert examples offer similar characteristics with riper, more concentrated fruit flavours and more sweetness.
Northern Italy
Typically lighter, drier, and less pungent than French or German versions, this is a far less common style.
New World
Gewurztraminer is not planted as widely in the New World as other popular varietals and styles tend to mimic the slightly sweet, fully flavoured examples of France and Germany. Some producers are having success at drawing out the exotic flavours while retaining a balancing acidity.
