Chicken: Main Image

Best to Buy

Fresh chicken should have no detectable odour; the flesh should feel firm, and the surface should not feel slick. Check the “sell by” date on the package, which indicates the last day the chicken should be offered for sale.

Prep & Store

Wash chicken thoroughly in cold water and pat dry with a paper towel. Refrigerate for up to two days.

Chicken should always be cooked until well done at 165°F (74°C) and no longer pink inside.

Nutrition Notes

Chicken is an excellent source of selenium, niacin, and vitamin B6 and a good source of zinc.
