Chewy cookies that pack a spicy punch!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup shortening, room temperature
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup white sugar (for rolling cookie dough in)

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • With a mixer cream the butter, shortening, and brown sugar. Add molasses and egg to creamed butter and sugar. Mix until light and fluffy.
  • In another bowl sift together flour, salt, baking soda, allspice, cloves, ginger, and cinnamon.
  • Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Take teaspoons of dough and roll in white sugar and in the palm of your hand to make little balls. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake until just firm for 10 to15 minutes; do not over-bake. They should be browned but look underdone when removed from oven. They will firm up when cooled. For a crisp cookie, cook longer.
