Zooca® Calanus® Oil, a Novel Food approved, rich oil from Calanus, offers high-quality nutrients beyond Omega-3. It features a full fatty acid profile, along with Marine Policosanols and Astaxanthin, naturally bound in wax esters. This unique composition is supported by research that highlights its benefits for metabolic health and healthy aging.
Sourced from zooplankton in the Norwegian Sea, the Calanus population regenerates annually, producing approx. 290 million tonnes. Of this, only 0.0005% is sustainably caught and harvested each year to produce Zooca® Calanus® Oil.
Calanus finmarchicus is a tiny crustacean, just 3-5 mm in length, existing in vast numbers. Positioned near the bottom of the food chain, it feeds on phytoplankton, obtaining energy from photosynthesis and supporting life further up the food chain.
Zooca® follows the highest environmental standards throughout its operations, from harvesting to extraction. Committed to minimising marine impact, the company implements a Sustainable Harvesting Policy and focuses on reducing by-catch through technology development and capacity building.
Using off-season fishing vessels, typically used for summer fishing, eliminates the need for specialised equipment. Their patented, eco-friendly towing system ensures minimal disruption to the ecosystem, and the production process utilizes 100% of the Calanus raw material, making it a waste-free, fully integrated system.
