Pomella®’s polyphenols and gut microbial metabolites contribute immensely to the health benefits associated with the skin-gut axis. Consequently, Pomella®, a patented pomegranate fruit extract standardized to deliver active phytochemicals including punicalagins, is a promising solution supporting gut and digestive health, skin health, and beauty from within.
A 2014 study shows how Pomella® pomegranate extract, ranked highest in antioxidant activity across a number of assays including ORAC, TEAC, FRAP and DPPH compared to 26 other antioxidant products. Pomegranate supplements (Pomella®) with the highest content of punicalagins showed high antioxidant activity, whereas those high in ellagic acid showed the lowest.1
Furthermore, in another study Pomella® was shown to be effective at protecting human skin fibroblasts from cell death following UVA an UVB exposure, while increasing the intracellular antioxidant capacity, and reducing generation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) after UV exposure.2 A new human clinical study showing Pomella®’s positive benefits on skin health is about to be published soon.
