  • Focus on physical fitness

    Increase your physical activity after giving up tobacco to prevent weight gain

  • Participate in a programme

    Find a smoking-cessation programme that holds regular meetings to discuss important topics such as strategies for stopping; factors that increase relapse risk; and problem-solving, stress-reduction, and coping skills

  • Ask your doctor about bupropion (Zyban, Wellbutrin) to conquer cravings, and buspirone (Buspar), lorazepam (Ativan), or alprazolam (Xanax) to help reduce withdrawal anxiety; also ask about taking tryptophane in combination with a high-carbohydrate diet, which can raise serotonin levels and control tobacco cravings
